Chapter 39 - The First Man of All (1)

Sukjong was the 19th king of the Joseon Dynasty. He has been portrayed through various media channels as skinny and fragile, often swayed by Jang Hui-bin and many women. But the truth is entirely different. 

The well-known Taejong Lee Bang-won indeed executed a stronger political hegemony than Sejo, who was known as Grand Prince Suyang. Still, it was Sukjong, the iron-blooded monarch, who wielded the most influential royal authority throughout the Joseon Dynasty's 500-year history.

King Sukjong ascended the throne at 14. His mother, Queen Myeongseong, should have taken over the regency, but he firmly refused.
