Just like any other day, Ferguson was returning to his lodging after finishing his piano practice when he heard a bird crying loudly.
"Oh dear, you poor thing."
The maid leading the blind Ferguson glanced at a nearby tree and exclaimed.
"What is it?"
Ferguson responded out of curiosity, and the maid explained what she had seen.
"A weasel attacked a bird's nest in the tree and bit the babies. The mother bird is sitting there helplessly looking at the scene and crying."
Although Ferguson didn't witness the situation firsthand, imagining it made him feel dreadful.
As a sensitive person, it made him feel great sadness.
"How would the mother bird feel after losing her babies right before her eyes…?"
A desire to compose a song that could comfort the mother bird suddenly began stirring within him.
And so the song "Forgotten Solace" was written.
He was age eleven.
