I was carefully watching Kaham while I followed him.
I couldn't figure out what he was up to.
He was the one who acted hostile to me at the banquet hall, so what was with this now cordial act?
I couldn't be at ease with him being too kind to me. It was as if he was showing kindness to someone about to die.
As if he was thinking that no good would come of treating someone terribly if they died anyway.
'And why is he going deeper?'
He had been like that since we entered the forest.
Whenever I tried hunting at the edges, he moved cleverly to push us further.
As if he had to get into the deeper parts, far from the rest of the hunters.
And then, it happened. A blood-curdling screech echoed through the air, shattering the stillness like a scream from the depths of hell itself.
"Kyaaaaaah!"
The woman's scream sent shivers down my spine.
Bang!
At the same time, red flares shot up into the sky.
I knew what that smoke meant, or more precisely, the meaning of its color.
