Count Warrug laughed heartily as he said he knew how I would respond all along.

He stopped laughing as soon as he heard my response.
"You have to get permission from my father."
"Oh, of course. Do not worry. I'll get confirmation from Gerard."

His face distorted when I said I was concerned about the inspectors, then he gritted his teeth when I explained their arrogance.
"What do you want me to do? Kill them for you?"
He told me he would help if I asked.
Recalling his disposition, I could tell he would have slit the inspectors’ throats if I had only asked him to.
'They are my prey. I have no intention of passing them onto someone else.'
Revenge was best when done with one's own hands. Asking for help would reduce the pleasure.
