The Mercenary King didn't ask for my opinion until the end.
It upset me to think that he considered it unnecessary.
He didn't know attempting to convince the Count would be useless if I refused.
"How long are you two going to talk for?"
The two had been chatting for a while. They would sit down, discuss for over 10 minutes, make no progress, and then repeat the pattern.
The Mercenary King would ask that I become his successor, and the Count would refuse.
All the while, it increasingly upset me that I was wasting time on such a fruitless affair.
"Hmm..."
The Count turned to me.
He had read the emotion on my face and seemed to understand how I felt.
"This was wrong from the start. You should have asked Raymond rather than me for permission."
"..."
Only then did the Mercenary King realize his mistake and look at me with his mouth shut.
