The three’s facial expressions hardened upon hearing Bernheim.
“Wh-What did you just say?”
“Did you not hear me? Prime Minister, that coffee that you’ve been drinking all this while, and Commander Walther, that coffee and donut you’ve been drinking and eating, and Frank’s coffee too. I put deadly poison in all of them. Its effects are a bit slow, but you should be feeling it about now. Don’t your tongues feel a bit numb? Or as if something’s in your throat?” Bernheim took a sip of his coffee.
Frank put his hand to his neck. Commander Walther began struggling to breathe. Merkenev let go of his coffee cup.
“I already took the antidote, so it doesn’t matter how much I consume of it. You guys, on the other hand, are in trouble.”
“You... What have you...” Commander Walther tried to stand up and fell towards the table instead. Blood flowed from his mouth and nose.
Frank was already leaning back in his chair, trying to catch his breath.
“An-antidote...” stuttered Merkenev.
“Oh, are you asking me for the antidote? But what do I do? I already ate it all.” Bernheim continued to sip on his coffee.
