Chapter 7 - In the Name of the Devil (2)

The three men flinched slightly at Kyu-ha's story but calmly continued the conversation.

"Did your parents pass away when you were young?"

Kyu-ha looked at the three people, glancing over at him with a sad smile on his face. He disclosed everything about himself except his dreams and psychopathic mind.

His listeners immersed themselves in his story, spitting out swear words in unison at the traffic accident part and wimping as the tale described him leaving the temple for a job.

As Kyu-ha calmly walked them through his dismay, Cha Kyung-seok nodded his admiration for how he had put up so well with his circumstances.

"Kyu-ha, you're splendid. I don't think most people could have endured even half of what happened to you."

Kyu-ha had sometimes been irritated by his unfortunate circumstances before he began having dreams, but it never made him sad.

But now that he had three people empathizing with his story, he looked at them with a smile.

Lightening the atmosphere, Jung Se-ho offered a toast.

"Let's drink to our wonderful and brave Kyu-ha!"

"Yes, let's try our best to help Kyu-ha succeed! Cheers!"

As the night wore on, they emptied more bottles, and by the time they finished even the canned beer, everyone except for Kyu-ha was heavily drunk. Lee Seung-ku and Jung Se-ho were sleeping face down on the table while Cha Kyung-seok was murmuring to himself.

Cha Kyung-seok stared narrowly at Kyu-ha.

"Hey, my brother! You! Stay here tonight! From today, you're my real brother."

After that, he stumbled toward the living room and lay on the sofa.

Kyu-ha took Lee Seung-ku and Jung Se-ho to bed and cleaned up the mess they had all made.

He tried to keep it as quiet as he could while cleaning up the room and the dishes so as not to wake them. At the time, he didn't realize it, but this was the first time he was unconsciously thinking about others.

The next day, the three woke up with heavy hangovers. They ate the bean-sprout soup that Kyu-ha prepared and went to the filming scene together.

The small group of four grew closer after then, which helped form a comfortable vibe at the movie set. Time passed quickly, and the movie was approaching its final shooting stage.

When Kyu-ha lived as Lee Hyun the killer, he was trained in torture-resisting techniques and had learned to commit unassisted suicide after getting caught, and so on.

But eventually, the chasing squad from the Martial Arts Society caught him. Instead of killing him immediately, they took him to an underground torture room to extract information about his assassin group first.

When he was being tortured by the expert technician, he didn't remember the training he had received. The torture was delivered professionally, and Kyu-ha's resolve weakened as the pain increased. It drove him nuts.

After being tortured for around a week, all thoughts of resistance were gone. His only thought was that he wanted his pain to stop as soon as possible.

The elite assassin Lee Hyun of the Dead Soul Assassin Group died after spilling all the information he knew.

At that moment, Kyu-ha thought to himself.

Not even the toughest person can endure torture exerted by an expert.

[In the Name of the Devil]

After a persistent pursuit, Lee Seok-jae finally finds Jung Won-geun in the Ansung City of Gyeonggi Province. Jung Won-geun has completely disguised his monstrous side and works as a forklift driver like an average person.

Had Lee Seok-jae not gathered information thoroughly, he wouldn't have realized that he was a devil in disguise.

He also had no intention of turning Jung Won-geun to the cops and punishing him legitimately.

He might have already gotten rid of all evidence, so he would only be sentenced lightly.

No. Even if Jung Won-geun got the death sentence, Lee Seok-jae knew they wouldn't execute him, so handing Jung Won-geun over to the cops was not even an option for him.

That was not the kind of revenge he wanted. He swore to his dead wife that he'd take bloody revenge.

He would choose the most excruciating method of punishment he knew.

Lee Seok-jae spent days keeping tabs on Jung Won-geun, waiting for the right time to catch him. The moment finally came.

One evening, unlike any other day, Jung Won-guen didn't head home immediately after work but went to the storage for farm machines, so Seok-jae followed him quietly.

Despite his age of 49, Lee Seok-jae was a former sergeant at one of the best Special Forces units nationwide and had maintained excellent physical condition. He was thoroughly trained in the harsh skills of subduing and killing people.

Lee Seok-jae sneaks up on Jung Won-geun from behind, wraps his arms around his neck, and tightly compresses the aorta, causing him to pass out within 30 seconds.

He then puts Jung Won-geun on an old wooden chair and ties him up firmly with a rope lying on the ground.

As Jung Won-geun is out cold, Lee Seok-jae closes his eyes to ponder the torturing techniques he knows for which would be most suited to his purpose.

"Ugh…"

Not realizing what happened to him, Jung Won-geun opens his eyes dreamily to find his hands restrained and tied down.

Lee Seok-jae steps out of the dark.

"Did you sleep well? You said you'd skin my face, but it seems like I'll skin yours."

"You're...?"

"Haven't I made it clear? I said I'll find you."

"Ah, you're that man who called me back then. Wow, I didn't think you would come." Hehe.

"Soon, you'll beg me to kill you. Of course, I won't do so, not so easily."

"Haha! What bullshit are you- Mmmm?"

Lee Seok-jae takes a rag from the shelf, shoves it in Jung Won-geun's mouth, and then begins digging into a toolbox.

Clatter clatter

"Hmm, this is too light... Let's see... This is not bad."

Seok-jae picks up a hacksaw.

“Let's go in order, Jung Won-geun.”

“Mm-mmm-mmm…”

He waves the hacksaw before Jung Won-geun's eyes before cutting each joint from his thumb.

Slit, slit, slit

Lee Seok-jae does it so slowly that Jung Won-geun feels every movement of the hacksaw slitting through his knucklebone.

"Uggghhkk."

A pool of blood forms quickly under the chair on which Jung Won-geun sits.

"No worries. I won't let you die from excessive bleeding."

After cutting all the fingers off Jung Won-geun's left hand, he intends to proceed to the second but decides to stop the bleeding first.

Lee Seok-jae then takes out a bag of lime powder typically used to sprinkle acidified fields, scoops out a handful, and spreads some on Jung Won-geun's wound.

The blood smears into white power as Lee Seok-jae is about to cut up the right hand similarly…

Pow-

Lee Seok-jae feels a stinging pain in his back as he hears a faint sound. He tries to figure out the situation, but when he tries to stand, he feels like the world is upside down and then blacks out.

His consciousness fades.

Ahn Kyu-nam enters through the store entrance, holding a tranquilizer gun in one hand.

"Sorry to bother you, Mr. Stranger. I need to take Jung Won-geun with me."

"Arg... You can't...."

Lee Seok-jae feels his strength draining, and he eventually loses consciousness.

"Usually, I would have shot you in the head, but I don't want any trouble, so I just used the tranquilizer. Consider yourself lucky."

He also shoots Jung Won-geun, who is now awake and glaring at him, before lifting him and leaving the scene.

Four hours later

When Lee Seok-jae returns to his senses, he checks the GPS he had secretly attached to Jung Won-geun and staggers away from the storage facility.

***

Lee Seung-ho plays a minor role as Cha Ki-pyo's enforcer in the Northern Gate Faction in the movie 'In the Name of the Devil.'

He has access to his current agency thanks to his father's connections as a city councilor, also using the same power to persuade the agency into giving him all their advantages.

Although Lee Seung-ho has all the fundamentals, he lacks a distinctive strength, causing him to fail all the big-shot auditions he has tried out for. He barely keeps his fledgling career going by joining the cast of films directed by directors familiar with his agency.

He was eager to advance in his career and gave his all in the audition for Jung Won-geun's character, working hard. However, they went with Kyu-ha.

"Why the hell did such a bastard get that role? This is because the agency is incompetent!! Is it not your job to get me the role I want?!"

Lee Seung-ho was furious that Kyu-ha had won the role over him, venting his rage to the CEO, as he didn't appear to have any experience or unique charm.

"Ugh, that pain in the ass... Why is he blaming me for his not having talent? If it were not for his father... sigh."

Ultimately, the CEO of Lee Seung-ho's agency pleaded with Director Go Yo-han to give him at least a minor role as Cha Ki-pyo's action-taker.

Lee Seung-ho is not satisfied as his character is not a main character, but he has no choice but to accept it.

The day for the shooting of his scene finally came.

In today's scene, Lee Seung-ho is to beat Song Kyu-ha with a thick wooden stick.

"This is my chance!"

Specially made wooden sticks are typically used on set, so the actors won't get hurt even if they are hit. But Lee Seung-ho planned to deliberately hurt Kyu-ga and changed his stick into a real one.

"Hehe. Then that bastard will be out, and who knows? I might get that role."

Lee Seung-ho smiled, trapped in his thoughts. Finally, they called someone out to start the shooting.

"OK! Actors, get prepared, please!"
