[Monastery of Gaon]
It was the second largest of the six monasteries in Meteora, founded in 1350 by a monk named Gaon. There were a total of six monks now living there.
All the materials for building the Gaon Monastery were raised to the top of the rock using only ropes, which was said to have taken 20 years. However, after they were raised, it took only 20 days to assemble them into the still-existing building. The structure was a prime example of how absurd it was to build a monastery on grounds this high, making it one of the top ten wonders of the world.
In addition, the main hall of the Monastery of Gaon was filled with beautiful sacred paintings, and various relics and artworks were displayed in its museum.

A regular day in the life of the monks living in the Monastery of Gaon begins with the sound of a clear silver bell.

As the bell rang, the monks dressed in long black monk uniforms that reached down to their feet and made their way into the main hall after coming out of their respective resting places.
