Michael knew Eisen's intentions.
'Father is somehow trying to bring Locke into the family.'
Michael didn't know why.
Locke being a bastard had nothing to do with him, and it would be fair to say that he honestly wasn't interested.
The maid sent to observe Locke was just as uninterested, to the extent that she thought the supporting forces could take care of him.
'It's been over a month since he held a sword. If so, he must have shown a considerable talent for father to covet him.'
And then he got an achievement.
Michael thought it was curious, but that was all.

He didn’t know anything else, but he was sure of Locke’s talent.
The recognition of his father and the blossoming of his achievement was enough for Michael to recognize Locke and accept a duel with him.
